You get the updated file. Free, by email, in the same order line as the original purchase. April rate changes, mid-year case law, new Acas Code wording, all included. The packs are built so the figures live in named cells, not in body text, so an update is a re-export, not a rewrite.
Every pack cites the UK legislation and the named case law it rests on in the footnotes, dated to the tax year, so you don't have to take my word for it. Each figure traces back to the gov.uk or HMRC source it came from, and you can check the working yourself before you ever rely on it.
Each pack is built to the rules it answers to, the MLR 2017 for AML, the Renters' Rights Act 2025 for landlords, the Acas Code for employment, and written to be inspection ready. They're thorough, structured templates, not legal advice, so if you're in a live dispute with real money on it, take the document to a solicitor. For the everyday compliance most independents actually face, it's the file you'd otherwise pay an advisor far more to produce.
Thirty days, no question. Reply to the receipt with the word "refund" and the original purchase is reversed inside the week. You keep the files; we are not in the business of policing whether you used them in the meantime.
UK independents who handle their own admin. Sole traders, freelancers, micro-employers, private landlords, small letting and estate agents under HMRC AML supervision. If you're running a business on small margins and the SaaS bills are eating the margin, the packs are written for you. If you have a finance team and an accountant already, the packs probably duplicate their work.
Hi :) I'm James Thom, a sole trader, and I built ExternalOS because I kept hitting the same wall. Whenever a compliance question came up, the only answers online were a monthly subscription priced for a firm with ten staff, or an advisor charging two hundred pounds an hour for a conversation I didn't really need. Nobody sold the thing itself, the spreadsheet that does the maths, the template with the statute already in it.
So I wrote them. It took about six months to get the five packs to a standard I'm happy to put my name on, each one citing the UK legislation and the case law it rests on in the footnotes, so you can check the working yourself. You pay once and the file is yours. If you find a mistake, or a rate I haven't updated yet, email me and the correction, or a full refund, comes back in the same thread as your receipt. We offer free tools also, any feedback would be appreciated!
Questions, corrections, a statute citation I missed: hello@externalos.com.
